Once upon a time, parents made it a point to teach their children good, honest, and noble values. Men would teach their sons to be men of valor and integrity, who would do the right thing, respect women, and honor God with their lives and families. Women would teach their daughters to be women of value and worth, who would lead by example, fight for what matters, and honor their husbands by standing side by side together in the face of adversity. Somewhere along the lines, parents either got lazy or bought into the lie that putting God in the backseat was both the politically correct and safe thing to do. Now with violence, drug use, various addictions, sexual promiscuity, and ever decreasing respect for authority on the rise, it’s no wonder that our society is the way it is today.
Winston Churchill knew the value of having parents teach the virtues of life to their children. By doing so, they perpetuated a productive, caring, ethically sound society; one far different from the morally bankrupt version we see today. Guys, we can still get back there. But, we can’t rely on the government, committees, or institutions to make the difference. It all starts with putting God first in our lives and our families. We need to take Him out of the backseat and put Him back in the driver’s seat where He belongs. We need to read God’s Word, apply it to our daily lives, walk in love, and follow His standards of right living. Then and only then, will we see our neighborhoods, our towns, our society, our country, and our world change for the better.
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.” - Deuteronomy 10:12
