There no sense in mulling the past over in our heads, over and over again. Spending your days fixated on past mistakes or what you did wrong, does nothing but steal your present. What’s done is done. Like my father says, “you can’t unscramble scrambled eggs”. God wants us to enjoy our lives and be a blessing while we’re at it. But if you’re always “brooding”, you’ll never get to the “blessing”.
When we leave the past in God’s hands and receive His mercy, love, and forgiveness, then we can get on with enjoying life. We choose to trust in God’s Word when He says we’re forgiven and free (see Romans 6:7, Colossians 1:13-14, and 1 John 1:9), the load changes shoulders. That frees us to enjoy life in such a way that we don’t just ignore the things behind us, we don’t even intentionally take the time to think about them. Now, that’s enjoying life!
