In this world, it’s becoming increasingly easier to build barriers between people. Where once upon a time someone would jump at the chance to lend a hand, now we find that more people are withdrawn and eager to turn a blind eye to others’ needs. We try to rationalize why we act this way and work hard to convince ourselves that it’s justified. But, the truth is all we’re doing is being selfish and critical of others.
Today’s quote is from one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived, and one of my all time favorite artists. But it’s Jesus’ words that truly have the power to change our perspective and our approach to loving others:
“But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.” - Matthew 5:44-45
We really are here to love and help others as much as is within our ability to do so. There’s enough evil in the world without us adding anymore to it. So let’s be the light today.
